C oming up with new projects for my students is easy, but finding projects the majority of the children enjoy and do well with is quite another matter! When I came across this advanced form of finger painting, I knew this could be one of those successful projects. Allen Montague, an artist from North Carolina, was demonstrating this unique form of art at our state art conference. As I watched him create a beautiful Monet-looking water garden, I knew my students would love this project. My kids are fascinated by paint, and at times cover their entire hand with whatever colors we are working with, which I fuss at them for doing! Well, by golly, here is a project where they can do exactly that and produce something nice. The teaching process was made easier because Mr. Montague had his demonstration on DVD. After purchasing it, I watched it until I felt I could do a quality demonstration. The kids watched it as well and were motivated to star t! (A shor t video of him fingerpainting can be seen on YouTube.
